Museum of Melancholy
(Working Title) Arcub Bucharest - Studio McGuire Exhibition

The works listed below are available for the exhibition, along with suggested placements within the space and initial notes on what is required to get them up and running. We need to pick and mix a selection based on budget and feasibility on both sides.

Ophelia

A basin will need to be constructed and decorated. Construction instructions and technical riders are available. Water clarity must be maintained using pumps and appropriate chemicals; supporting documentation is provided. Has music and requires complete black out.
Suggested Space: PCV 9

Sirens

A large but shallow basin needs to be constructed. The dimensions can be adjusted to suit the space, but the water depth should be approximately 5 cm. Documentation from MAD Arts Museum is available detailing their basin’s construction (materials, etc.) and water-clarity maintenance. A technical rider with projector specifications is also available. Has music and requires complete black out.
Suggested Space: Sala Boltilor (left space with round staircase)

Micropolis

A large cardboard structure needs to be constructed from timber and laser cut cardboard layers. Various props, details and LED lighting need to be purchased and integrated. Has music and requires complete black out.

Suggested Space: Sala Arcelor

Ascendance

While this piece is usually projected onto large gauze in churches, we aim to adapt it for Arcub by presenting the content within a large rectangular monolith or picture-frame structure. Has music and requires complete black out.

Suggested Space: Sala Arcelor

Grains of Recollection

Currently a single-user VR experience, the work will be simplified and expanded into an installation featuring 5–6 VR headsets suspended from the ceiling, with a physical miniature paper model at the center. A ca. £800/€950 production budget is required for this development. No blackout is needed, and audio is limited to the headsets.

Suggested Space: Sala Atelier

Vanitas

Ten large picture frames need to be sourced; the frame style and colour is open for discussion. The installation includes sound and requires a blackout space.

Suggested Space: Sala Cafeana

Bell Jar Fairies

Ten to thirteen fairy cabinets will need to be fabricated locally, as the existing set is allocated to another exhibition. The cabinets are constructed from 3mm laser-cut plywood with a stained finish. Vector files for cutting and an instructional video are available. Equipment can be sourced from Amazon, and bell jars can be purchased from Temu. Both the media players and the bell jar decorations can be preloaded or prepared in the UK and shipped as needed. No blackout is needed, and audio is local to each fairy cabinet. Material and Equipment Costs ca. £3k/€3.5 for 10 fairy cabinets.

Suggested Space: Sala Librarie

Starkers

The exact statue must be used due to the digital content and existing narration, though only the front is required. A 3D model does not currently exist, but a quick test in AI brough promising results which could then be 3D printed in Romania. The installation requires a fully darkened space and white back wall and includes sound.

Suggested Space: Sala Arcelor

Dark Dolls House

3 pieces can be shipped from the UK. The works are wall-mounted, include no sound, and do not require a darkened space. A materials/equipment budget of £900/€1000 would be needed to produce the pieces.

Suggested Space: Sala Boltilor (right small space)

Merchandise

Ophelia is the most representative piece for Museum of Melancholy so we'd like to use images of her for merchandise.
